Château Bouscaut 2009 92 2016-30

The nose is quite firm at first but opens out with lots of black cherry and cassis. The fruit feels ripe the palate has richness of flavour and although the mid tannins are firm there is lots of sweet blackcurrant a hint of liquorice and chocolate at the back giving richness on the finish.

Château Carbonnieux 2009 92 2018-35

The nose although firm has an attractive mix of black fruits and the start of the palate has the fleshiness of ripe cassis. The mid sweetness is balanced by black cherry still firm at the back but there is sweetness and a richer feel on the finish.

Château de Fieuzal 2009 93 2018-35

Black cherry dominates the nose and the start of the palate is firm and very black fruited with sloe and cherry. Under the tannic structure there is lots of ripe cassis a touch of liquorice and these ripe flavours give a sweeter feel at the back but the finish has yet to open up.

Château Haut-Brion 2009 1er Cru 98 2025-50

The nose is smoky fragrant black fruited with the freshness of bilberry and bramble. The palate has depth richness profound with a powerful mix of cassis and black cherry. The tannins are fine supporting but not dominating and whilst there is freshness the finish has power and depth of fruit.

Château Malartic-Lagravière 2009 92 2019-40

The nose has depth and richness of flavour the sweetness fleshiness backed by fresher flavours. Black fruits dominate ripe black plum and cassis the mid palate is quite lush. There is freshness towards the back the bilberry and bramble supported by firm tannins yet there is enough sweet fruit to enrich the finish.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2009 96 2020-45

There is a lovely mix of flavours on the nose lots of ripe black fruits. The mid palate is lush with sumptuous powerful flavours their fleshy sweetness giving suppleness yet under the sweet flavours bilberry and red cherry refresh lifting the flavours and helping complexity. All seems in balance with enough red fruits and lighter black to give freshness and elegance yet enough ripe black to give richness.

Château Olivier 2009 91 2018-35

The nose is light fragrant with a mix of red and black fruits. The start of the palate is fresh some red cherry some bilberry and bramble with the fruit on the mid palate rather over dominated at the moment by tannic firmness. There are richer sweeter fruits at the back with a little more depth and weight of flavour on the finish.

Château Smith Haut-Lafitte 2009 95 2020-40

The nose has depth with lots of ripe black fruits and the palate is profound deep with a brooding richness. Blackcurrant tends to dominate yet behind is some black cherry and liquorice underpinned by chocolate richness. There are layers of flavour freshness yet sweetness lots of complexity. The finish is bright with an attractive freshness.

Domaine de Chevalier 96 2020-40

The fruit is ripe the nose sweet and black fruited. Cassis and ripe black plum are supported by fine tannins enhancing the mid fleshiness. The suppleness is balanced by some fresh fruit bilberry and bramble all adding to the complexity. On both back palate and finish there are rich flavours yet enough freshness to give that feeling of elegance.
